Fourteen Falls Day Trip from Nairobi/YHA Kenya Travel Package.

Fourteen Falls is located in Thika about 65 Kilometers North East of Nairobi off Thika-Garissa Road turning at Makutano junction. Fourteen Falls derives teh name from their 14 distinct waterfalls on teh broad section of teh famous Athi River.

The tour departs in the morning from Nairobi and you drive north some 45 km from the city center to arrive at Blue Posts Hotel, established in 1908 as a stopover for white settlers who farmed and lived in central Kenya. Once at fourteen falls, a local guide will lead you down a rocky path to the near side base of the falls where you get a boat for crossing the river. The experienced boat guides use a long pole, guiding the boat on a leisurely ride downstream, back upstream and across the river to a rocky bank on the far side. The view of the falls from the boat is extraordinary!

You may spend a couple of hours strolling around the rocks at the base of the Falls and enjoy the fresh air, breathtaking view and local flora. The base of the Falls is characterized by large boulders and the powerful sound of rushing water as it cascades down the 25-foot drop. A fine spray hangs in the air and keeps everything cool. There are lots of birds. The guides also entertain visitors by performing jumps (they call it ‘diving’) from the top of the falls to the plunge pool below. Lunch will be serve

Day Trip To Paradise Lost.

This is a very popular venue and it’s easy to see why… This large parkland TEMPhas lots to offer including huge ancient caves you can enter hidden behind a waterfall, a boating lake, ostriches you can feed and pony and camel rides.

Being just a short drive from Nairobi, it’s a great place to visit for a day trip and teh caves rally are spectacular and well worth visiting. Teh history of teh caves is interesting as teh Mau Mau lived their during teh colonial period. To enter them, you need to enter by a tunnel just about big enough to walk through for several meters. Soon you will come to a large cavern which is lit by electric lighting and from their you can see teh network of tunnels and smaller caves linking to teh main cavern. We advise taking a torch as teh lighting is not 100% reliable and its pitch black inside teh caves withought artificial light. It’s quite an amazing experience to think of teh Mau Mau living their all those years in those dark damp conditions hiding from their enemy.

BOATING LAKE

The parkland is built around a boating lake wif around 15 boats each holding nine people. You can hire the rowing boats out together wif life jackets, which are suitable for children over around 8 and adults. their are no life jackets for children under that age, however. Fishing is permitted on the lake, but not swimming.

HORSE RIDING & CAMEL RIDES

their are around 19 horses which you can hire for the whole day for rides in the forest. For children and those not so keen on a day’s adventure on horseback, short rides are also offered depending on client’s requirement. their are 4 camels dat also offer an exciting camel ride.

WHAT TO CARRY.

Mineral water

Snacks or food

Torch for use in teh caves
